An Open Letter To The Bookworms.

Dear Bookworm Pal,

First of all, I want to let you know that there will be people who will call you a nerd, or a geek, or even boring. But you’re not those things. You’re an amazing person who has lived several lives, traveled to millions of places, met so many different people, battled Dragons, and practiced Witchcraft! You’re anything but boring! You have seen words come to life, from the pages of your books, in your head.

You’d like nothing better than to curl up in a cozy corner, under a quilt, with a mug of hot chocolate and a bowl of potato chips or marshmallows beside you and just read your favourite book. You are always in a constant fix; you want to finish the book but there are just too many loose ends to be tied up- the book can’t end just yet!

“Reality doesn’t always give us the life that we desire, but we can always find what we desire between the pages of books.”
― Adelise M. Cullens

And oh, how can I forget the agony of finishing a newly released book when you find out in the end that you would have to wait another year (sometimes more) to know what happens next? Don’t you just hate cliff-hangers?

You carry a book everywhere you go, just for that sense of comfort. Even though you might not have the time to read it, you like having a book beside you when you travel because it’s like a silent friend whose presence alone is enough to make you feel better.

And how can I explain the rush you get when you walk into a library or a book store? The smell of new books in the store… The smell of old books in the library… The smell of books in general! You wish you could bottle the smell and carry it around in a vial, just so that you can spritz some over yourself whenever you feel like!

“We want books that make our hearts beat harder… that relieve us of the agonizing burden of everyday life”
― Ben Oliveira

You have a not-so-secret dream of owning a really huge house, just so that you can have the largest room for all the books you’ve bought over all those years- with a lot of cozy reading spaces around the house. You prefer blowing your allowance on books and you don’t even regret it because, hey, they’re books!

You read, re-read and over-read books. You find out that there are new things about the book every single time you read it again. It’s as if there is some kind of a never-ending magic inside those pages, as if new words appear every time you open it again.

There is absolutely no limit for reading. You never know how many hours or days you’re going to take to finish a single book. I get how you choose reading over sleeping most of the times. You keep your book under your pillow, secretly hoping that you can live the story in your dreams, every night.

“Often, when I am able to check out a book, I read it a dozen times before returning it, desperate to remain lost in the magic of someone else’s story.”
― Amy Engel, The Book of Ivy

You don’t really like lending your books to people because you don’t trust them to handle your handle your book the way you do. Will they fold the pages of your book instead of using a bookmark like normal human beings and not monsters? Will they write on the pages? Will they undo the binding? Will they tear pages? Ugh, no!

There is so much more to you than just reading. You always hear ‘Never judge a book by its cover‘ but that’s what people do to you all the time and I know you’re sick of it. You’re much more than just a person who loves to read- remember that! You’re a warrior, a demi-God, a magician, a witch, a wizard, a vampire, a scientist- whatever you want to be, because you’ve lived so many lives!

In short, you’re one of the most precious people in this twisted world! So, keep reading and never let the magic fade!

With love,

A fellow Bookworm.
